Interactive Experience for Video Game Marketing

With the rapid growth and innovation of technology, companies are able to increase their marketing techniques by creating immersive and interactive experiences, resulting in much more engagement from their clients. This two-way system approach of interactively communicating through the use of of electronic means, such as TV, computer, or mobile has opened so many doors for brands/businesses to reach out to their audience.

Interactive design is defined as the focus of the field study in user-orientation that uses meaningful and effective connection/communication of media through periodic and collective techniques between the audience and technology. An interactive design is considered successful when it has clear and solid defined goals, along with an impactful purpose and aesthetically pleasing and intuitive screen interface.

Essentially, it’s all about creating user experience so that your business or service can, not only enhance, but broaden the way viewers communicate, work, and interact. This type of experience focuses on the relationship between a service/product and users by building numerous platforms and structures that help achieve the goal. Interaction design is also known as IxD. Gillian Crampton Smith, who is a leading academic in interaction design, stated, “Interactive Design design shapes our everyday life through digital artifacts for work, play and entertainment.”

Keep in mind, interactivity goes a long way, beyond computer systems and its artifacts. As humans, we experience everyday interactivity, whether it be through playing a game, to using a vending machine. When designing an interactive experience for certain audience, brands should always pay attention to what their viewers’ wants, needs, abilities, expectation, and lastly, obtained knowledge.

According to Digital Arts online, “By appealing to all the senses (including the cognitive engagement that interactivity entails) the experience will create a more powerful and lasting memory and so be more effective in inspiring action in the future.” And this is why people love immersive and interactive experiences much. The integration of technology to advance real life spaces allows people to interact directly and explore in a freely manner.

In Vision Three’s article, “Top 5 things to Consider when Creating an Interactive Experience,” written by Jake Leeman, the five things a company must do (listed in order) are as follows:

1). Know your audience

2). Understand your content

3). Consider the location

4). Think about technology

5). Determine the budget

These five fundamental areas will help analyze and organize thoughts on what a company or business would need in order to produce an engaging project.

One of our most recent projects we just finished working on was for the game, Mobile Strike. The task was to create a 360 video, which is created through the use of a recording camera system that is able to capture 360 degrees of the entire scene, in this situation, gameplay. Viewers have the freedom to rotate and pan the video’s perspective by either using the directional controls located at the top left corner of the video or simply by dragging their mouse in the video window at absolutely any direction they desire. There’s also the option of using the keys A, W, S, and D on the keyboard. These 360 videos are also known as immersive videos, although it is a real world scene video recording, the only area viewers are unable to see is the view of the actual camera support.

Another one of our past projects was an interactive exhibit. We designed a statue  for our client, Square Enix, which was of a fat chocobo from the game, Final Fantasy. It was used as a photo opp, where people can climb on to the statue and take a video and/or picture.

WAYPOINT, As a video game creative agency in Los Angeles, many of our other projects have dealt with interactive experience as well. It goes beyond a 360 video. With the skills and sources we have, our services also include designing interactive websites, landing pages, web banners, social media ads and much more.
